For a while there in the early aughts, female-fronted Symphonic Power Metal was the hot new thing, but then there was kind of a lull, as the original bands stepped away from Power Metal and more commercial Goth-metal styles dominated. Now it seems like we have more bands willing to dig down to the old Symphonic Power Metal style, and Angel Nation are one that is doing it pretty well. The key ingredient here is being an unabashed Power Metal band, without trying to be anything else. Angel Nation also have some really good melodies, which is another thing bands like this need. Singer Elina Siirala has a smooth voice with just enough operatic styling to evoke the old days of Nightwish, Magica, and Edenbridge without going full out. Overall, this is just an enjoyable album, even if it's not breaking any molds. |
