This is Oratory’s debut EP and it’s on the short side at just under 11 minutes, but it’s probably better that was because it packs a hell of a punch in that short running time. The vocals are more shouted than growled and sound a bit hellish by not being too forward in the mix and the result is great. There’s heaviness aplenty here, especially when things are slow to mid-paced, that crushing feeling that’s pretty addictive, largely courtesy of sharp and heavy guitar work. I found all three songs pretty catchy and there are some thrash and doomier influences here as well as hints of just straightforward heavy metal. I hear a lot of death metal, but Oratory have something here that’s different from "the usual" and doesn’t have that feeling of deja vu, and that’s saying something in a crowded genre. |
