I've been following this band for some 21 years and I don't think they know the concept of a bad album. ;) Hegemon were there when the French black metal scene was flourishing and managed to weather the storm when that scene took a hit in terms of quality (which has been getting "back to normal" these past few years). Sidereus Nuncius is Hegemon doing their thing while not sounding stale or giving the feeling that they're playing it safe. They sound a little harsher on this one while preserving that subtle doomy, dark atmosphere that's omnipresent on their albums. Here we get a mix of their "softer" melodic sound and a more blasting approach that adds quite a bit of aggressiveness reminiscent of the ‘90s Scandinavian scene, albeit with more melodies mixed in as opposed to an all-guns-blazing, take-no-prisoner speedfest. Overall an album that strikes a nice balance between melodies, atmosphere, and flat-out destruction.
