Chasing a Dream is the second album from Sweden’s Palantir, a band that plays tried and true power metal. There was a bit of a progressive feel to their debut, but on Chasing a Dream it is all sweet melodies and uplifting choruses, the kind bands from around the turn of the millennium perfected. The songwriting has taken a step forward and there are some truly catchy hooks on "Astral Prison" and the album highlight, "Among the Stars." On this one the singer sounds a bit like Keepers-era Michael Kiske, which is never a bad thing if power metal is your groove. The other songs are not bad either, if not as memorable, and the sci-fi lyrics are cool. No wheels were reinvented during the creation of Chasing a Dream, but if you are into early 2000s bands like Heavenly, Kaledon and, of course, Helloween, you should enjoy Palantir’s latest effort. |
