This is some really cool black metal that mixes a relatively raw approach with some symphonic overtones. I don't think the symphonic angle can be played too much in Abhor's case as the bulk of their sound is really harsher than that of many actual symphonic black metal bands. They use the symphonic aspect, but just in the right places as opposed to going over the top and making it too overwhelming. It's pretty dark stuff with really harsh raspy vocals, overall quite heavy and with a good balance of speedy and slower passages. I've been listening to this album off and on for a long time now and I keep going back to it, not because it's extraordinary or whatever, but just because it flows so well and never gets boring. Some of the guitar works is a little addictive, kind of rooted in traditional heavy metal and calling for some serious air guitaring, not really all that common when it comes to black metal. Addictive.
