Russian Black Metal act Grimorium Verum have been pretty active since they reformed in 2006, releasing an album every three to four years since then. This brings us to their fifth studio album, Reall, released four years after the entertaining Revenant, and I'm happy to say this is an improvement in every way.

The band still makes their Black Metal fast paced and symphonic like Limbonic Art, early Dimmu Borgir, and maybe even Carach Angren do, only they are typically more varied and technical than that, certainly more so here than before. The real star here is Vitaly Molodetskov's first-rate guitar work, especially his solos, but every instrument gets their time to shine and add to the thick atmosphere found in the album. The complexity on display means this isn't an album you can just play in the background while doing something else, you really have to sit down and listen to it with focus, but if you do, you'll find a dark, multi-layered sound that will grab you by the throat before dropping you into starless, bottomless darkness. Well worth your time.
