Sixth album for this one-man act from the Netherlands, who has put out six full-lengths in five years. This one (the title meaning something like "The Mutilated Silence of Being") is getting a vinyl release on Babylon Doom Cult, which may be why I have it here. The music here is pretty solid second-wave black metal, with some very cool melodies buried in the harshness, even if the songwriting gets a little repetitive. The vocals are a rather monotonous rasp that doesn't do the songs many favors and is broken up by some spoken-word parts and silly whoops that are actually worse. I really think this would have been better as an instrumental project, as the vocals are consistently the worst thing about this album. This has some good points but not enough of them. |
