Midnight Viper is the debut EP from this band out of Richmond, Virginia going by the name Aces. That simple name fits well with this band's approach, one of simple, rocking heavy metal that has no pretenses and pulls no punches. The guitars sound like very early efforts from US bands like Mötley Crüe's Too Fast for Love and RATT's first EP and is thoroughly old school in every way. The singer has a good voice but not a lot of emotion, so while she does just fine with the vocal lines, she isn't really lifting the songs much at this stage in her career. The songwriting is also a little generic and the songs sound alike in several spots. Regardless, if you enjoy bands like Midnight Dice, Aeroscreamer, Tower, etc. your foot will no doubt be tapping. A solid first effort that hopefully means better things to come from Aces. |
