Australia has a damn good track record when it comes to extreme metal, so it’s not too surprising that Idle Ruin’s full-length debut kicks as much ass as it does. It’s heavy as hell, it’s raw and underground, it’s a bit punky in the same way Venom were at the start, and it has strong performances across the board from drummer/vocalist Liam Anthony’s deranged shrieks to bassist Tim Maastricht’s nicely upfront bass work to Kaleb Doherty’s ear-piercing riffs. In other words, it has everything I could ask for out of a death/thrash release, and anyone with an interest in the style will likely say the same. A band to watch. |
