This is a side project of Tanner Anderson—guitarist/vocalist and songwriter for the awesome Obsequiae—and a few other guys, most of whom have also been in Obsequiae or played live with them. This is obviously a tribute to the classic Melodeath of the old days, as this is avowedly in the vein of Dark Tranquillity, Edge of Sanity, and other bands from the heyday of the style. Tanner seemingly cannot keep the medieval melodies out of his work, and that’s a good thing, because that makes this sound like classic Dark Tranquillity with a gloss of Obsequiae on top. This has the strengths of old Melodeath: the hooky riffs combined with the aggressive attack. It also has the drawbacks, which are that a lot of the songs sound alike—they sound good, but they are not very distinct. Still, this is a solid album and worth a listen.
