This band's debut EP got a good bit of attention here on the crypt for the energetic and catchy riffs and strong songwriting. Now we get the debut full-length, and it's just what you wanted if you liked the EP. More of the same hooky, classic metal riffs with the same vintage-sounding recording job and solid songwriting. The vocals by mainman "John Shades" are. . . different. They have a lot of energy, and he's working a more melodic vibe than on the EP, but they remain a bit of an acquired taste, as they switch between a harsher bark and some weak melodic singing. The music here is becoming good enough that the lack of a better vocalist is really becoming more glaring. That said, it doesn't really detract from the fun of this album. The songwriting and riffing remain strong enough to keep your fist in the air the whole time. The band really doesn't take it to another level here, but this absolutely delivers on what the EP promised us. |
