Review

This is supposed to be the last Majesty album, which kind of marks the end of an era. Majesty have had a kind of outsized presence in the scene, partly just from being active for like 25 years, partly because band mainstay Tarek Maghary is a co-organizer of the Keep It True festival. It's kind of strange, because everybody knows who Majesty are even though they have never been that great. Albums like Sword and Sorcery and Reign in Glory are fun slabs of Manowar imitation, but no one will argue they are first-class. Maghary's dedication is admirable, but his songwriting and singing are strictly average.

This tenth album is not really any better than any other Majesty disc, but it doesn't have any real high points like "Will of the Cobra" to hang onto. There are some solid riffs, like on "Glorious Warriors" or "Heralds of the Storm," but nothing exceptional. 20+ years ago this was the best you could get in the True Metal field, but things have progressed since then, and Majesty haven't. Sometimes when a band is defiantly old-fashioned it comes across as integrity, but Majesty just don't seem to have as much imagination as they wish they had. I think this is a good spot for Majesty to get off the train, because they mostly just sound tired.
