The oddly named Meet the Mailman offer us a very melodic take on thrash metal with Never Walk Alone. There's a bit of a punk vibe here, especially in the vocal department, and I couldn't help but think of Jo Steel/Jo Capitalicide (or so many bands that I won't even begin to name them) at times as the style is similar even though they don't sound the same. The album is fast paced but not overly so, just enough to give your air guitar a good workout. I gave the previous album a quick listen and that one sounded heavier and less melodic and the vocals more thrashy, so the band are not repeating themselves on Never Walks Alone. There are some old-school influences, but overall this is modern melodic thrash, so if you've had enough of the so-called old-school thrash revival (or whatever people are calling it this week), you will find something different here. An interesting and diverse album that reveals more of its intricacies with every listen, and some of its melodies will haunt the back of your mind for days. |
