Molten Rainbow (or VI: Molten Rainbow, this band has a weird numbering system for their releases) is the fourth full-length album from Canada's Antioch, another one of the myriad of traditional metal bands pouring out of the Great White North and into the worldwide metal scene. It's been a while since I reviewed their First Strÿke (or II: First Strÿke) debut album back in 2015, but these guys are still churning out pummeling heavy metal like it is 1985. The vocals are a combo of splitting David Wayne screams and gravelly, Rock 'n' Rolf Kasparek bellows. There's a lot of energy to the playing but the songwriting doesn't venture much beyond Running Wild-style power metal ("Imps in the Coal"), Metal Church/Reverend thrashy metal ("Temple of Blackfire"), and a bit of melodic accessibility, not unlike Lordi ("Lucifer in Chains"). There's nothing particularly original or amazing on Molten Rainbow but it is loud and proud to the point where it is hard not to break out the air guitar on occasion. It isn't going to change the world, but it is fun.
