Phobocosm are a Canadian Death Metal band who are doing something a little different than what you would expect. You might well describe this as "Immolation, but slow and in a cave." It has that echoing, spacious recording job, and the music is packed with atonal riffs that remind me of Sulphur Aeon, but played at a dirge-like speed that does not quite veer into Doom, but remains distinctly Death Metal. An interesting feature is that while the guitars churn out their slow riffs, the drums more often than not keep pounding and filling, creating a distinct sound that's really not like any other band. Definitely a release worth checking out.
