With a name like that, you might be forgiven for assuming this is a revival of some language-barrier Euro band from the days of yore, but no, this band has only existed for a few years, and this is a brand new album. Plus they are an Aussie band, so I have to either assume that "Aardvark" means something more bad-ass to them, that or they are just taking the piss. All that aside, this is a pretty good album of stripped-down Heavy Metal that is definitely working that classic, early-80s vibe when stuff like Krokus, Quiet Riot, and Thin Lizzy kind of straddled that proto-metal/hard rock line. The riffs are solid if not that imaginative, the playing is good, and the production is not too glossy. The vocals of "Ed Vaark" are a weak point, as he's just not very good, with a stuffy sound and not much range. He's passable, but he's not doing the music any favors. This is a band with the right idea, but they are not going to blow you away. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
