I kind of miss the days when Nightwish clones with pouty lead singers were popping up all over the metal landscape, but nowadays they are fewer and farther between, and more often than not they are not really Power Metal bands, but rather purveyors of poppy, goth-metal stuff that can be fun, but lacks substance. Ana are definitely one of these, as they are billed as "symphonic," but there is very little symphonic about their sound save for some keys. Singer Anna Hristenko has a decent voice, but nothing about her tone or skill really makes her stand out. The melodies here are agreeable, but not very memorable, and the songwriting in general is a bit mushy, without much real identity. Another band following in the Within Temptation/Xandria mold, and I can see they have potential at that, but they need work. |
