Mòr offer some very busy and violent black metal on Hear the Hour Nearing!, with a black metal rooted in the second wave but with a very large dose of melody and, while not symphonic, comes off as accomplished and polished as that subgenre. The music sometimes sounds a little upbeat, when not borderline epic, sometimes more melancholic. I found the album kind of dull, for lack of a better word, on the first few listens as it works very well as background music that you can forget is there if you're not always paying attention; kind of just chugging along, if you will. It does require your full attention to extract all the layers that the band packed into those songs. But even then, I found the songs kind of blend into each other and nothing really stands out; it's good, but it's just there, so to speak. Still, this is good black metal that gets better with age. |
