Canada's Anahata (or Sol Anahata, I've seen it both ways) rolls a few different influences into their second album, Syncretic Sovereignty. With a title like that, it probably isn't going to be a surprise that they add a few prog touches to their epic/trad metal foundation, especially the keys on "Perihelion", but it is mostly chugging riffs and a solid guitar tone which this band trades in. There are some good solos as well, like on "Arc of the Arrow." The vocals are what I would call nondescript, not weak but lacking the charisma needed to sell the songs and the vocal lines are not very adventurous. The best song, full of fire and fury, is closer "Son of Fate" which is from their 2020 demo of the same name. Anahata really digs in on this one and it kicks ass. I find the rest of Syncretic Sovereignty to have some interesting parts but as a whole, it doesn't seem to do any one thing so well that it leaves much of a lasting impression. After it ends, I can remember not disliking it, but not much else. |
