After hearing the blasting, chaotic black/thrash/speed metal on Mayhemic's debut album Toba, it probably won't come as a total surprise this band hails from Chile. South American bands tend to double down on the brutality and that's certainly the case here. Mayhemic plays fast, loud, and with zero regard for any sensitive ears in the vicinity. The vocals are alternately barked and bellowed with angry intent, guitar necks are pinched mercilessly, and drums are pounded within an inch of their lives and that's pretty much how you'll feel seconds into opener "Kollarbone Crushed Neanderthal," which is a nearly six-minute-long beat down. I find a lot of the material on Toba to be so utterly chaotic that in places it goes from "song" to "noise," and I like it when the band slows down a bit, like on "Eschatological Symphony," where you can hear them play a bit more. There is a bit of early Slayer in Mayhemic's songwriting, but I can also hear more recent acts like Toxic Holocaust and Barbados. If those bands get your head banging, give Toba a spin.
