Currently in their second incarnation, Chile's Acero Letal are a heavy/speed metal band that injects a lot of the NWOBHM and early North American scenes into the music on their Legiones EP. The artwork and band logo, featuring a prominent Flying V guitar, scream '80s metal and the songs have a youthful, bursting with energy sound. The lyrics are in Spanish so I'm not exactly sure what Acero Letal are singing about, but I can pick up enough words like "bestias" (beasts) and "muerte" (death) to know the topics are suitably metallic. Speed is the name of the game, and I did find myself clumsily (because again, I don't speak Spanish) trying to sing along to the choruses, so Acero Letal can write vocal lines with hooks. If you took the overall sound of a band like Blitzkrieg and sped it up to Exciter velocity, you'd start to get an idea of what to expect from Legiones. I hope these guys can keep things going and get a full album out as there is promise here. |
