I've seen this band classified as avant-garde black metal, but they're not quite as weird as some bands that fit into that category, though there's definitely some mind-bending stuff in here. Lots of sound effects and some spoken passages give the music kind of a cyberpunk vibe (kind of; at least that's what immediately came to mind.). This is a black/death metal hybrid with a progressive bend that's not without reminding me of some post-Killing Technology Voïvod, the weird '90s stuff to be more specific. It's not always all that metal-sounding, seeping into some weird '80s movie soundtracks kind of stuff that I remember hearing 40+ years ago. There are some more mysterious-sounding, movie-like passages that remind me of series and movies from the '70s and early '80s that are quite a departure from the more barebones black/death metal passages. It's weird stuff that benefits from multiple listens as there's a lot going on here. If you're into black/death but are looking for something more eerie and less straightforward than usual, Goldstar might just fit that bill. |
