Debut from this German band who are clearly into classic stuff like Sodom, Mercyful Fate, and Destruction. With those kinds of influences, you would expect to get your face ripped off, but Morbyda are oddly restrained, with songs that are slower than I expected, without the wild flailing I want from this kind of thing. Their riffs are pretty fun, but the production is muddy enough that they are hard to really hear that well, and while vocalist "Mogli" has a lot of enthusiasm, his high-pitched squealing comes across as more annoying than anything else. When he keeps to his lower, harsher register, he sounds better, and at least doesn't irritate me. The songs all sound kind of alike, and if they were all one kickass song, that would be fine, but this one is pretty mid and goes on too long. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
