Third full-length for Imperialist in seven years, so they are definitely not slacking off. I keep wanting to like this band better than I do. I like their look, their vibe, their concept, but their music refuses to really take off. This is much more similar to Melodic Death Metal than Black Metal, with the raspy vocals being the major blackened element on display. I can tell they are going for a kind of Dissection-meets-Vektor approach, but they are not the riff masters they would need to be to really carry that off, and they lack the technical edge of Vektor or Coroner (also a definite influence). I overall enjoy this album, but while it is solid, it falls short of great, with songs that are too repetitive and lack real hooks. Well played and well produced, but that's not enough, and this one falls short of Zenith and Quantum. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
