I guess we have to give Emperor the credit (or blame) for adding keys and inventing the symphonic end of the Black Metal pond. There is definitely some of In the Nightside Eclipse to this, as there is with almost every Symphonic Black Metal album. This does not go for too accessible melodies, and it gets the cold atmosphere right. There are some influences from bands like Tartaros (for anyone who even knows who that is) or very early Dimmu Borgir. I like this, but it doesn't have a lot of presence and makes for better background music than anything else. Well made but lacking in real songwriting heft. |
