The Great Apocalypse is album six from Sweden's Insania, a band so power metal, their name is also a place in Helloween's "Twilight of the Gods" from Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 1. These guys do "happy" power metal to perfection from the slick, polished songwriting that is uber catchy to the playing, which finds every note in its place. Whether you like high, Michael Kiske-esque vocals or neo-classical Rhapsody of Fire solos, Insania bring it all to the party. Feet are sure to tap, choruses will be sung along with, air guitars will be tuned up, etc. The biggest knock on this record that I have is that if you have even just a few albums from Helloween, Edguy, Freedom Call, etc., all of The Great Apocalypse is going to be something you've heard before with not a single toe over the line of what has been done already. If I were rating The Great Apocalypse simply on sound, playing, etc., my score would be higher because Insania are pro, but I question how necessary any but the most die-hard power metal fan is going to find it. Those who do grab a copy will be pleased but find themselves on familiar ground.
