I had not heard of this international band (members come from Sweden, Denmark and Malta) prior to receiving their second album, Realm of Ruin, but I'm glad it came my way. These guys play a pounding brand of heavy/doom metal with copious, thundering riffs and clean vocals belting out plenty of hooks and catchy choruses. All that tracks, given the extensive resumes the participating musicians boast, and the songs on Realm of Ruin alternately hit inexorably like a bulldozer or immediately like a stampede, but either way leaving you with the feeling you've been run over. Argus is the first band that came to mind when I started listening to Anchorite, but Grand Magus and While Heaven Wept (specifically the guitar melodies on "Kingdom Undone") are in the mix. If you like heavy/doom metal, this is an album that you'll need your air guitar for.
