This is a Black Metal band from Finland who are definitely wading in the deeply melodic and epic end of the pool. I mean the first track of this thing is a five-minute intro and it is a full minute into track 2 before you hear a single guitar riff—it's that kind of album. This is very reminiscent of stuff like Moonlight Sorcery or Evilfeast, with the long songs and a lot of keys layered into the mix. It's going for "epic" but a lot of it is just long, and the riffs are not quite good enough to be repeated as many times as they are. I do like the very excessive nature of it all, with the songwriting coming across as quite chaotic in a fun way. I can't say it is awesome, but I still like it. |
