Acid Reign were one of the very few British thrash metal bands that actually made a name for themselves…at least for a little while (Sabbat are an obvious other). This does not sound anything like Sabbat however. Actually, Acid Reign were a very weird thrash band. For one, they played a highly technical form of thrash metal with song lengths well over the typical 2-3 minutes. I am talking about an 8 minute thrash attack that doesn't get repetitive at all! A little weird, but they knew what they were doing. It does take some time getting used to though. (No, no…no prog elements here. They are just long songs and slightly more technical than most thrash, so progheads shouldn't get excited;)

In any case, this album has very few problems. This is a great album and one that thrashers need to check out. Without any exceptions, the music here is of the 'fun' type and not really the unrelenting, blistering speed assaults that were common in the thrash kingdom at the time. It sounds something like a mix between Andre Grieder era Destruction grooves with some Death Angel in their meaner moments. Judging entirely by this album, one would gather that this band had a great future ahead of it, as it found a good little spot in the thrashing world that it could call its own. But tragedy struck this band and they went down in history as a one hit wonder. Well, a 'one-album wonder'. The sound of this album truly is unique, and I am not quite sure if Acid Reign even could have done much to 'evolve' on their next record without ruining it the way they did. They should have just redone this same album at least one more time with different tunes on it! Anyway…Look for this one in the "used" bin next time you go shopping!
