This is a DVD video compilation of various Metal Blade Records recording artists, mostly at the extreme end of their roster, save for a couple of exceptions. This DVD is pretty much barebones: You get the Metal Blade logo intro at the beginning, and then right away it starts with the first video. There's no menu for the videos either: If you want to go to a specific one, you have to skip from video to video - since there's only 20 of them, that's not as bad as it may sound. There are bands you are bond to love or hate on this, as the selection is quite diverse (see the track listing below.) Among such powerhouses as Amon Amarth and The Crown (frankly the only two band I care about on this whole DVD), are such classic stinkers as Six Feet Under, Unearth and Ancient. That said, while the music might not necessarily rock your boat for all of them, there a some good videos on there. Most are just the band playing (either on a live stage or in some abandoned building, rehearsal room - you get the idea), which I usually prefer over some butched attempt at recounting the song's story. Cannibal Corpse have some freak kidnapping, killing and eating women in their video, for instance. Good family fun. Gorerotted has quite a few shots of living dead freaks, looking cheap at time but also a bit funny. But overall nothing extraordinary, just your average metal videos. I guess this is a good and cheap way (I reckon this DVD isn't very expensive) to sample a bunch of bands and see them at the same time, but this is definitively not mandatory. If you're a video freak and some of the bands here are your thing, then go for it. |
