Despite being the fathers of Grindcore – a genre I despise – I have always had respect for Napalm Death, and I still periodically haul out "Harmony Corruption" for a spin. So I was prepared to give this a fair shot, what I was not prepared for was how boring this album is. I guess after 11 studio albums and more live albums than anybody wanted Napalm Death have finally lost their shit. "The Code Is Red…" is not even that terrible, it's just boring. Bland riffs played repetitively, with a punkish disregard for any kind of songwriting structure, so the songs just start, blare along, and then stop for no reason at all. Barney sounds awful, giving up his trademarked gutter for an enervated shout. All in all, this CD is a waste of time from a band who used to be worth something, but now seem to be sucking on the punk rock tit for a payday. Pitiful. |
