It's been a hell of a long time since I last listened to any Horna - to the point that I didn't even remember what they sounded like. So here's the new album, once again all in Finnish. Audibly, with this kind of vocals - your typical BM screeches that are practically indecipherable - it doesn't matter too much what language this is sung in anyway. :) Of course, if you want to know about the lyrical content, that's another story. Listening to this, I regret not having given my other Horna albums more spins than they got in the past. "Envaatnags Eflos Solf Esgantaavne" is an old school-style BM release - by old school I'm talking about the early to mid 90s second wave of Black Metal. There's the inevitable Scandinavian sound from the era (think early Darkthrone, among others), but with some thrashier moments that are not without reminding me of some later Desaster. You've got your rather speedy numbers here (Darkthrone-like speed, not Marduk or Setherial-like), as well as some much slower ones that treat you to some melodic and sorrowful atmosphere. There isn't much more to say about this: It's not "norsecore", it's not shitty keyboard-laden BM, it's just straightforward old school BM that I personally don't get tired of listening to. Note that there are also a vinyl and a double-vinyl version with a slightly different track listings. |
