Lucifixion are a US band playing an old-school breed of traditional Death Metal with a dash of melody. They don't verge into melodeath territory, but they are well away from the tech/grind crap that so often gluts the US scene. They put out an album back in 1996 that looked to be much more goregrind, but this is an EP to keep things warm while they work on their next album. I'm glad to see this band getting away from splatter and into a more solid direction, and musically this is more adventurous and interesting than what I refer to as Deth-Metal – the Americore garbage that so infests our shores over here. There's some good stuff here, as Lucifixion have solid riffs, decent production, and they stray off the brutal path here and there with doomy passages and some female singing. Overall this is a pretty cool EP, that definitely shows promise for the future. In Europe a band this tight would have been signed long ago, we can only hope someone on this side of the lake recognizes their talent. This is short, but for deathheads looking for new acts, it's more than worth checking out. |
