Pioneers of brutal death metal, Suffocation, have returned with another album. After their "comeback" album, Souls to Deny, the guys have followed up with an excellent album. One simple word can describe Suffocation's sound: Angry. Suffocation play some of the most angry and brutal death metal around. This album is similar in style to the rest of their catalog with no real surprises (although one could consider Entrails of You to be a death metal love song). This album is so angry that listening to it makes me want to punch someone in the face, in a good way of course.

The album kicks off with a stupid, unnecessary intro then kicks right into Abomination Reborn, a good opening song with some great solos. Every song on this album is strong and showcases what Suffocation does best. The incredibly low death vocals by Frank Mullen are still completely coherent and not just noise. I wish other bands would take note and realize you can be incredibly low and brutal while staying coherent. The guitar solos are fast and heavy. The drumming on this album is insane. Drummer Mike Smith plays some of the fastest double bass I have ever heard on Bind Torture Kill. I had to listen to that song 3 times in a row just to hear the double bass part in the song again. The guy sounds like a machine gun firing and not a human.

This is a damn good album by a band that has written the brutal death metal book. I enjoy this album more than their previous effort Souls to Deny. If you are a fan of Suffocation, the guys are still destroying necks with this album, so you should definitely pick this up, and so should fans of brutal death metal in general. Not as incredible and original as Effigy of the Forgotten or Pierced from Within, but still a damn brutal album. 2006 was a damn good year for death metal.
