Another satisfying Runemagick release. This is…what, their 10th album? I can't keep track anymore. Nobody else works as fast as Nicklas and his outfit, churning out so many good albums. This one is much more in the vein of their masterwork Darkness Death Doom, still straddling that line between straight Death Metal and outright Doom. This is one of their heaviest albums, and the riffery reminds me very much of their older works like Enter The Realm Of Death. The more pugilistic elements are well mixed with the expected spacier passages, and overall this album creates a very satisfying feel, balancing all the elements so that nothing really predominates. If any album in their busy career could be called a 'typical' Runemagick album, this would be it, as every element of the band's signature sound gets equal play. Highlights like "Chthonic Temple Smoke", "Volcano Throne", and "Magus Of Fire" show off why this is a great band.
