Sinergy. Not many people know this band, but they would have great interest in discovering it. This Finnish band is leaded by American vocalist Kimberly Goss (ex Dimmu Borgir, Therion). Her boyfriend, Alexi Laiho is also a member of the band. Yes, the guitarist from Children Of Bodom. Together they are the band's main songwriters.
To Hell And Back is Sinergy's second album. It is a more mature album, a mix of Speed and Power metal. With 9 tracks totaling about 42 minutes, the only track we could have done without is a cover song. It is not a very long album, but better have 8 good songs than 12 with 4 bad ones. It seems like it's becoming the norm to make an album about 45 minutes long.
Now for the contents. As I mentioned, it is Speed/Power metal. Sinergy doesn't reinvent anything, but Speed metal fans will find here something they like. This is ultra-technical Speed/Power metal. Note that there are no keyboards on the album. Kimberly has a very powerful voice, using clean vocals of course, but I can assure you that she is more aggressive than most male vocalists using clean vocals. And what to say about the guitar work by guitar-hero Alexi Laiho. The riffs are very powerful, and there are good melodies. Fans of Children Of Bodom and guitar in general will love the work on this album. I actually find the guitar more powerful than in Children Of Bodom. This is a good album of Scandinavian metal, even if nothing is reinvented, the musicians are very good. It is good to hear some good metal from young bands. The production is excellent. There is a limited edition with a red case, you might want to hurry to make sure you can get it.
P.S. I hope that Children Of Bodom will still remain a priority for Alexi.
