Maybe I just don't get Gamma Ray, I mean I loved No World Order, but most of their lauded albums: Powerplant, Land Of The Free, Somewhere Out In Space - just strike me as either lame or dull, or both. This one is more in the "lame" category, and though I have tried to like it, I don't.

This is Gamma Ray in their "poppy/silly" mode, which I hate deeply. About half the songs on here are generic Power Metal snore-a-thons like the amazingly clichéd "Into The Storm" or "Leaving Hell", and the rest are laughable pop-metal epics like "To Mother Earth" or the unbearable "Empress". A powerful production job and some first-rate musicianship goes a long way towards hiding how bad this is, but really, this is all surface and no substance. The only thing I can say about the many people who will line up to call this the album of the year is: don't be one of those people. This is an offensively shallow and fraudulent album that I like less and less with every listen, the moreso because this was once a great band. Avoid.
