Anubis are labeled as Thrash, but I found this EP rather tame for the categorization. This is more like basic Heavy Metal with a thrashy edge. "These Ancient Halls" is quite decent musically and somewhat diverse despite its short length, with some slow and heavy songs popping up in between the faster, occasionally thrashing and pounding numbers. Some of that diversity occasionally sounds a bit disorderly, sometimes almost ruining an otherwise good song. The vocalist also showcases a good range of vocal styles, from a very clean style with a deep voice (which, I'm sorry to say, even though it is a good style, sounds totally out of place here), to almost guttural, and also a more abrasive and aggressive thrash style. Overall the CD can come off as a little amateurish because of the more chaotic, out of control passages that just sound "wrong" at times, but there's a fuckload of potential hidden under all of this - lots of good melodies, a good number of catchy riffs and a few very old school solos that often pop out of nowhere. This is definitely a band to keep an eye on.
