Whoa... Did I just get run over by a train? Ampütator play some very old school, raw Black Metal that's not without reminding me of Hellhammer on steroids. Other than sounding a little muddy at times, there isn't much to complain about after listening to "Deathcult Barbaric Hell" - assuming this style is up your alley, that goes without saying. The album is a speedfest (not "Setherial fast", but pretty damn fast) of thrashing, chaotic, cold and hateful Black Metal. I guess the best way to explain it would be: Take a look at the track listing. Not exactly singing about flowers, are they? Well, the music fits the song titles like a glove - "What you see is what you get." Abrasive, throaty BM rasps is the vocal style used here, which adds even more of a fucking hateful feeling to this sonic massacre. It's not refined, it's not pretty, and that's exactly how it's meant to be. Sure, it's been done before, but it's done well here. Not much more to add about this one. It's not for everyone, but if you like your Black Metal raw and brutal, this might just be what the doctor ordered.
