The way I discovered German label Schwarzdorn Production was by getting a promo of one of their artists called Taunusheim. Actually I received it from a co-writer at the time. I had the chance to be added on their promo list, which brought home some great music like Carved in Stone, and now this recent release, Nocturnal Misantropia . I also saw that Taunusheim had a new album scheduled to come out this year. It goes without saying that I'm really looking forward to that one!

Xerion was formed by Nocturno in 2001 as a one man project. Nocturnal Misantropia is their first full length, with a full line up now, but quite a few demos and split CDs were done in between. Xerion deserve the Celtic Black Metal tag the label has given them. References to Galician folklore are woven in the music by using more traditional instruments like whistle, bells etc... as well as being covered in the lyrical content of their songs and in the ambiances. Many times, you'll hear fast Black Metal with tremolo pickings and the likes, and on the other hand, quieter breaks offer nice atmospheric passages, often graced by keyboards. The keys here are never overwhelming, but always projecting a well appreciated ambiance and a feeling of melancholia in the overall sound scape. Same goes for blast beats/double basses; they don't try to steal the show, quite the contrary. This allows the more melodic aspects of Xerion to take their well deserved first place. Founder Nocturno is mostly responsible for this melodic Celtic Black Metal journey by playing guitars, bass, whistle and vocals. Numerous good pieces to point out on this release such as "Na Traza Esoterica", "No Pazo Derruido Da Existencia", "No Val Do Silencio" and the title track.

Nocturnal Misantropia means: very recommendable Black Metal with a pleasant Celtic touch.
