Fuck Off and Die! Attention-catching band name, that's for sure. I was expecting some kind of grind outfit, but this is Black/Thrash with some punk and even some rock 'n' roll and grind-ish influences here and there. Think of a less "polished" Carpathian Forest, at least to some extent as the two bands aren't in the same league. The band uses a lot of excerpts from various movies as intros to some of the songs, Terminator 2 and Apocalypse Now! being two that I recognized, but there are a few more that I can't quite remember. There's even one that seems to be from one of those lame daytime shows à la Geraldo or whatever. This is hit or miss really, sometimes it fits, sometimes it doesn't (and the Apocalypse Now! excerpt is way too long.)
The music is somewhere between the Blackened Thrash of Carpathian Forest and other similar bands from the same area and Bay Area Thrash (some guitar and drums passages could have been lifted from Kill 'em All-era Metallica, for starters). The songs are often short, straight in-your-face speedsters, but also lengthier, more "atmospheric", militaristic march type of songs that build up the suspense - the kind of stuff that would work great in a war movie soundtrack. The vocals are mostly BM-style rasps, but quite decipherable most of the time.
I wasn't expecting much to come out of this, so Anti-all turned out to be a nice surprise. Raw, savage Black/Thrash with a hint of humour mixed with more somber, dark slow tracks. I'm not too fond of the movie excerpts, but save for a couple of them (the longer ones), they're more or less easy to phase out after a few listens. Not bad at all.
