The switch to Metal Heaven from lame upstarts Majestic Rock appears to have done Swedish Melodic Metallers M.ill.ion the world of good, as it sees the hairy five-piece wearing their Metal influences on their sleeves, producing their heaviest record to date with more bite than a premenstrual great white shark. Following the fun but all too saccharine Kingsize, Thrill of the Chase is a fist in the air album of stomping Melodic Heavy Metal with as many hooks as Leatherface's cellar and plenty of searing riffs, syrupy backing vocals, and classy keyboard runs to boot. With a sweet variation in pace, a slick, enveloping production, and a ream of catchy, memorable songs, Thrill of the Chase is without a doubt the most important record of the band's six album oeuvre, but again, they fail to really ignite in style, and despite the racy tempos and sky-high chorus lines, only "Slave To You", "U.F.O." and the fabulously up beat title track stand out amongst the prosaic plethora of Hard Rock/Metal acts currently flying around the circuit. This is definitely a step in the right direction, and if M.ill.ion produce an album full of tracks like the title cut in the near future, they'll certainly have a winner on their hands. And so will you. |
