I received this promo on my birthday, and yes, it was a very nice gift! The moment I saw that this release was coming up, I was more than happy, and highly expecting it.

Höstmakter has not disappointed me the least bit, quite the contrary. This music contains all the great ingredients I look for when searching for top quality Black Metal. First, a superb cover art with dark scenery and nice logo, only a promise of what marvels await the listener. In this case, you can judge the content by the cover, no problem. No old school or over produced symphonic Black Metal, nor avant gardist or even progressive, but just excellent Black Metal with folkloric elements. I love it! No such thing as relentless blast beats hammering the listener from beginning to end. Wonderful! There are fast and furious passages, but many moderate paces are often the usual beat chosen by those talented Swedish musicians. The discrete rasps of Ascaroth are of the ghostly type, adding to the eerie of their music, while frequent acoustic passages bring a soothing folksy touch to the scenery. Guitar/bass player Grimmer also show a liking for epic moments in his lead guitar playing, a thing that I've always appreciated. This musician is as efficient in various type of guitar work, may it be for doing distorted arpeggios, tremolo picking, crunchy riffs or doing rumbling bass lines. Although not present on every track, melodic touches of keyboards/piano are brought to you by Larssa. Nothing over the top or overwhelming, just a nice atmospheric touch, which is always welcome. Höstmakter has made many appearances in my player and never got boring.

Only very good songs in its track listing with some superb compositions such as "Dödsangest", "Dödens Visa", "Djupa Spar av Tvivel", "Undergangen" and "Falk".
