This is a Finnish band whose debut Death Metal Finland made some waves a few years back, and this is their follow-up. Sotajumala ("Wargod" in Finnish) are a fairly young band, and they display solid chops on this disc. I listed the translated track list, since all their song titles and lyrics are in Finnish, which has the unfortunate side effect of making them sound silly to English-speakers.
Sotajumala play a nice mix of Florida and Swedish-styled Death Metal, totally devoid of the melodic stylings that are usual for a Finnish band. This album has a faster pace and brutality I associate with New World DM, while displaying a definite Swedish heaviness and guitar tone. Songwriting-wise there is nothing new about this, and fans of old-school DM will find plenty to like here. Despite label hype Sotajumala do not break any new ground, but they are pretty kickass.
