Advent Parallax is the fourth full length studio release from this USBM horde, and upon hitting play, it's clear from the first few seconds of the album that these guys certainly don't hold back when it comes to bringing the onslaught of Black Metal fury your way.
Guitars hiss and fizz in all their acerbic glory, reminding of prime Dark Funeral when blasting out the more up-tempo passages. However, they're not afraid to slow things down a bit with some slow, burning riffage that is reminiscent of more recent Satyricon (in fact, this similarity is probably made more apparent due to the vocalist sounding so much like Satyr that it could actually be him at times).
Generally speaking though, the tempo is much more upbeat and crushing than the likes of Satyricon, with tremolo picked discordance being the main dish of the day, all wrapped in a crystal clear production which allows each instrument to be distinguishable in the mix (yes, shock horror — even the BASS!). Before the cave-dwelling true kvltists out there stop reading however, even with its clean production, the disharmonic guitars, frenzied speeds and unwholesome atmospheres still cling closely to the Black Metal sensibilities — similarly to the likes of Merrimack or Antaeus who smash out their bile filled Black Metal in a good quality production with all credibility remaining safely intact.
All in all, this is a highly quality Black Metal release that not only throws in enough variation to the blasturbation pot to hold your attention, but also one that exudes a fantastic frosty atmosphere whilst doing it. Well worth looking into for fans of any of the aforementioned bands.
