Yeah, so what does Masterstroke mean, anyway? Because I sure don't know. Whatever it might mean, this was the prelude to their second album Sleep, and it mostly showcases the more commercial, heartthrob side of the Finnish Metal Men. All of the elements you probably never knew on the debut you probably had never heard of until I reviewed it are still here, with the crunchy, metallic guitars still rattling away at their pleasure and the rhythm section backing it up in a solid manner - although here they turn the spotlight over to Niko Rauhala, who has tamed his gruff shout into a quite enjoyable Peavy Wagner-esque gritty croon here that I find myself enjoying immensely.

Both of the songs on here are fairly decent, with the title track being the better of the two by a hair; a smooth, wondrous hard rock jingle with some nice vocal acrobatics and a melody that reminds me heavily of some of the better stuff Rage was doing on Speak of the Dead. The guitars interact splendidly, with the little melodic trills in the background dancing wildly with the crunchy riff in a manner not unlike Tarot would do, with the backing synths only aiding it - a mini-epic in its own right, I say. "I Just Died In Your Arms" is a more commercial song, a cover of the original Nick Van Eede tune, and it's catchy and poppy and fun to listen to, although definitely not the best this band can do. Sort of a random cover, but hey, what can you do?

This is short and scanty, and it is not in any way essential listening, but for the odd completist among you readers, this is worth tracking down.
