Absu is one of those bands I had heard more than a few people raving about (including the illustrious leader of Metalcrypt.com himself…heh) I was quite anxious to get this in the CD player when it arrived and to say that this is a kick ass disc would be an understatement.

Tr00 black metal from Texas sounds like a misnomer but it is absolutely true in this case. This is simply some kick ass up tempo black metal with a few thrash and death influences thrown in here and there. The biggest thing that impressed me about this band is the very above average musicianship and songwriting. The musicianship is just dead on with some really kick ass guitar melodies but far away the best part of this album is the incredible work by the drummer (Sir Proscriptor McGovern). This has to be some of the best drumming I have heard this side of Dave Lombardo’s work with Testament on their "Gathering" album. The songwriting is also worthy of praise on its own. Although the majority of this album is very up-tempo the songs never once get boring or start to sound like each other, which is certainly a difficult thing to do when going at this speed. The vocals and lyrical content is what really give this the black metal sound and vibe and are exactly what you would expect from a release such as this.

Any fan of the up-tempo style of black metal or hell even fans of the new breed of thrash/death bands like The Crown will certainly be pleased with this album. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
