Every Black/Thrash band is going to get compared to Destroyer666 no matter what they do, and the measure of a band is how well they stand the comparison. Assaulter have promise, but they don't really do anything here to get me excited either. Tremolo riffs and raspy gargling vocals don't automatically make you "black" in my book, and a 4/4 drum beat doesn't make you Thrash either. Assaulter aren't offensively bad by any means, and some of the riffs are solid, but I find most of this too tame, too slow, and too imitative of better bands. If you claim to be "Black Thrash" you had better rip my damned face off, and there is precious little face ripping going on here. These guys have potential, but they need to kick it up about 5 notches if they want to make waves. |
