Funeral Doom is not hard to do, but it is so hard to do well. If your atmosphere is not compelling, if your melodies are not powerful, then your music is just slow and boring to no purpose. Somnolent try hard, aping every genre convention with diligence and devotion, but they are not able to inject much fire into their music. The sound is pretty good, but the compositions go nowhere, and the atmosphere you are hoping for never materializes in any way that attracts attention. If Funeral Doom has a ‘middle of the road', then this would be it, but in a subgenre as extreme as this, that is no compliment at all. Not terrible, but not moving or involving in any way. |
