After the lackluster Revelation 10 years ago, this is another comeback for Armored Saint. Well, I had some hope but this turned out to be another failure. In fact I'm not sure why I had any hope: These guys were never all that great to begin with. One good album out of seven... Anyway. After anywhere between 20 and 25 listens, one can't say I didn't try to like this album.

This is really more of a pop-ish hard rock album with a few metallic tidbits than an actual heavy metal album. "Little Monkey" is arguably the heaviest song here, more metallic than the rest and with some punk leanings. Other than that, we deal with very radio-friendly output (though it's not like "Little Monkey" couldn't be on the radio), mostly bland and pop-ish with catchy but annoyingly pop vocal lines. "Head On" is an exception – it's very easy-going but they did a good job of rocking out this sucker, and it's quite enjoyable. The other songs are just irritating – well, unless your tastes include popular music, that is. Hell, some of this stuff sounds so gay that the only way you'll be blasting this loud in your car is if you have one of those rainbow bumper stickers.

While this is musically very decent and Bush's vocals are very professional, as a metal album this barely makes the cut – it's like picking the last kid in your team at gym because you need the same number of players. Frankly, this stuff should have been released under a different band name and marketed to a more mellow crowd – though I'm sure that just like Revelation, a number of *cough*metalheads*cough* will be praising this as the return of the messiah. Pass, unless what you're looking for is a decent mellow-ish hard rock album.
